Renal system/ultrafiltration Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Renal system?
Eliminate waste from body, regulate blood volume, blood pressure and electrolytes.
What happens in the ureters?
After being filtered urine travels down the ureters.
What happens in the nephron?
Blood is filtered and other and water/other useful substances are reabsorbed this makes urine.
What are nephrons connected to?
Collecting ducts that take urine to the ureters.
Which arteriole has a wider lumen?
Afferent arteriole
What happens to the blood while in the glomerulus?
It is under high hydrostatic pressure
What goes into the tubules?
H20, amino acids, glucose, electrolytes and urea
What passes through into the Renal vein?
Large proteins and blood
What happens in the proximal convoluted tubule?
Glucose and amino acids are absorbed back into the blood if needed
What happens in the loop of henle?
Water moved in and out if needed
What happens in the distal convoluted tubule?
Mineral ions are absorbed if needed
