Immune system Flashcards
What are mast cells?
Cells that secrete histamine as a response to damaged tissue
What responses does histamine stimulate?
Increased blood flow in capillaries
What are cytokines?
Proteins that act as chemical messangers to signal immune cells to fight pathogens.
What stage of phagocytosis is this?
Bacteriumm is ingested forming phagosome
First stage of phagocytosis
What stage of phagocytosis is this?
Phagosome fuses with lysosome
Second stage
What stage of phagocytosis is this?
Lysosomal enzymes digest captured material
Third stage
What stage of phagocytosis is this?
Digested products are released from the cell
Fourth stage

What do t-helper cells do?
They help the immune system by stimulating the activity of other cells
What do t-helper cells have?
Recepters that are complimentory to a specific antigen
What do killer t-cells do?
They kill certain cells such as: cancer cells, foreign cells, cells infected with a virus
