Renal Disorders Flashcards
1
Q
- Post Group A beta hemolytic strep; 10-14d post infx
- Coco-cola colored urine (hematuria), Edema (especially periorbital), HTN, fevers, abd/flank pain, oliguria
- Dx:Biopsy gold standard, UA, SCr, BUN
- Tx: Supportive; Abx
A
Glomerulonephritis
2
Q
Kidney’s unable to respond to vasopressin (ADH) and therefore levels are high
A
Nephrogenic Diabetes insipidus
3
Q
Most common cause of acute glomerulonephritis in adults worldwide.
- Often affects young males within days of URI or GI Infx (d/t IgA immune complexes)
- Tx: ACE Inhibitors and steroids
A
IgA Nephropathy
4
Q
- Small vessel vascultis (thought d/t immune complex deposition; URI often precedes).
- Sx: Purpuric skin lesions on lower extremities (primarily), arthralgia, hematuria indicates renal damage.
- Tx: Steroids
A
Henoch-Schönlein Purpura
5
Q
- Triad: 1) Thrombocytopenia; 2) Hemolytic anemia; 3) acute renal failure (lysed cells clog glomeruli). Often proceeded by E. coli 0157.
- Tx: usually self limited
A
Hemolytic uremic syndrome.
