Renal and Gu pp2 Flashcards
acute tubular injury
clinicopathologic entity characterized clinically by acute renal failure and often morphologic evidence of tubular injury (necrosis)
Etiology of UTI
Gram - rod bacteria: e.coli (85%) proteus klebsiella enterobacter **in feces
Who are community acquired UTIs common in?
females
Predisposing conditions associated with pyelonephritis?
- vesicoureteral reflux with intrarenal reflux
- DM
- pregnancy
Etiology pyelonephritis
> 95% arise via ascending infection from the bladder
50% of children with UTIs have this
defective vesicoureteral junction
normal vesicoureteral junction
ureter enters the bladder in an oblique fashion
vesicoureteral reflux
during micturition, urine from the contracting bladder is pushed up the dilated ureters into the renal pelvis and calyces
populations with papillary necrosis
diabetics, sickle cell patients, people with urinary tract obstructions
is papillary necrosis unilateral or bilateral?
usually bilateral
