renal Flashcards
functions of kidney
Filtration, reabsorption, excretion,, regulation of BP & lytes, acid-base balance, hormone production
Two hormones produced by kidneys
Calcitrol and erythropoietin
Enzyme produced by kidneys
Renin
Bnp
Hormone made in the heart ventricles in response to increase stretching. Increases sodium and water excretion by the urine
Aldosterone
Works to increase sodium and water reabsorption and increase potassium excretion in urine
Prerenal and causes
Structurally normal kidneys but reduced renal perfusion
Caused by: low CO, uncontrolled vasodilation, hypovolemia, renal vascular obstruction
Intrarenal
Kidney tissue is injured, damage to glomerulu, vessels and tubules
Causes: toxins, vasculitis, rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis
Postrenal
Structurally normal and good blood supply in the kidneys but blockage in flow of urine along urinary
Tract
Cause: obstruction, tumor
