“Rebirth” The rebirth of arts and learning centered in Italy, starting in the 1350’s and lasting until the 1600’s.

The study of Ancient Greece and Rome.

The city that is the center of Italian Renaissance.

People who study the works of Ancient Greece and Rome.
Humanists
A wealthy family who were international bankers. Supported Renaissance artists.
Medici
A person that supports a cause through gifts or money.
Patron
Architect that designed and built the dome on the Florence cathedral. (Santa Maria del Fiore, or II Duomo.)
Brunelleschi
A master painter who started a new style. Some might say he defined Renaissance painting.
Botticelli
The most famous of all Renaissance artists who was also an engineer, sculptor, and inventor.
Leonardo de Vinci
Most widely recognized painter (ceiling of the Sistine Chapel) and sculptor (The David) of the Renaissance.
Michelangelo
Astronomer, mathematician, and inventor who publicly went against church teaching and proclaimed the earth revolved around the sun.
