the belief that one’s own nation/culture is so superior that war should be used to take over others. Extreme and aggressive nationalism.
jingoism
a system in which one nation joins with other nations to defend each other. This is the “A” in MAIN.
alliance
the power keg of Europe. Located where Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina are today. Where Rome divided.
Balkans
the future leader of Austria-Hungary whose assassination started WW1.
Archduke Francis Ferdinand
(allies) France, the United Kingdom, and Russia (at the beginning of the war), and the U.S.A. (end of the war)
Triple Entente
a country that does not take sides in a conflict.
neutral
(central/axis powers) Italy, Austria-Hungary, and Germany.
Triple Alliance
a ruler who has complete power.
dictator
the first WMD (weapon of mass destruction) used to gain an advantage in trench warfare.
chemical warfare
the document that spelled out the terms of surrender and ended WW1.
Treaty of Versailles.
