What: dissatisfaction with Church leaders and beliefs, that individuals should have a direct connection with God not through the Catholic Church.
Who: Martin Luther, wrote 95 theses that debated but did not intend to separate from Catholic Church. He ended up creating his own Church (Protestant)

Protestant artwork feared idolatry fear of praising the artwork and not God, art was from woodcut: cheap, efficient, and to teach. Smaller figures in fear of idolatry. and more focus on God and not on art. Moralistic view.

Mannerism: was an rxn to high ren and harmonized the ideas and celebrated nature of work and didn’t show the traits of ren of symmetrical and clam and stable and humanely figure.

Color: opposite on color wheel green and red offputting and has a jarring effect

Space: confused and undefined

Erotic and impossible movements

Overall: courtly, grace, sophistication, stylish

lack calm and balance eye has to move around a lot and twist and turn and figures had impossible movements and visually complex
