Martin Luther
Reformation
Augustinian fryer taught at Gutenburg in Germany made his discovery when reading a letter from Saint Paul (a Just Man) and Luther wrote 95 thesis and posted on Church doors
Purpose: debating points NOT intended on separation from Church but he wanted to refine
Church then chargers him with heracy
1520 excommunicated and started his own church 1yr later
1517: split of posts of 95 thesis
1520: creates own Church

Nepotism
hand down stations of Church based on name how much money difficulty reconciling with Church
Protestantism
salvation is through God and not through Church and structure. Formed out of the reformation
didn’t believe in transubstantiation, belief in communion, commemorate symbolically
Idolatry
fear of idolizing the image and not God, praise image in art but not God Himself

Catholic: conversion of Eucharistic elements into the body and blood of Christ at the consecration, only the appearances of bread and wine still remaining.
Protestant: did not believe in transubstantiation believe in communion and commemorative and symbolic not blood and body of Christ, Christ present in act but not actual body and blood.
