Remote Pilot Exam Flashcards
What is class C airspace.
Class C – controlled airspace utilising a surveillance (radar) service to separate traffic. Common over capital cities.
What is class D airspace.
Class D – controlled airspace using a procedural service to separate traffic (relies on pilot’s broadcasts of position). Common over secondary (i.e. Archerfield) and regional (i.e. Rockhampton) airports.
What is class G airspace.
Class G – uncontrolled airspace. Pilots use see-and-avoid techniques and make radio broadcasts (such as on a CTAF) to avoid each other.
At what hight is a very smaller and light flight premited within controlled airspace.
Flight is permitted in controlled airspace if not above 400 feet AGL.
If flying a “small” (2kg or heavier) RPA for commercial purposes in controlled airspace what do you require.
you require approval from air traffic control i.e. phone the control tower, who will advise any broadcast requirements.
You have a client that would like an aerial inspection conducted at their property. This would be approximately 4nm (7.4km) north-west of the runway at Gold Coast aerodrome, but directly aligned with the runway centreline. Gold Coast is a controlled aerodrome during the time of your intended operations. What is the maximum height that CASA recommends you operate to not create a hazard to manned aircraft or infringe approach and departure paths?
300 feet / 90m
You have a client that would like aerial photography conducted in Brisbane City. This would be approximately 3.2nm (6km) south of the runway at Brisbane airport, but directly aligned with the runway centreline. Brisbane is a controlled aerodrome. What is the maximum height that CASA recommends you operate to not create a hazard to manned aircraft or infringe approach and departure paths?
Flight not permitted at any height
The same client would like aerial photography conducted west of Brisbane airport. The flight would be conducted approximately 3.5nm (6.5km) west of the runway. The position would be approximately 90° off runway centreline and not directly aligned with any runways. What is the maximum height that CASA recommends you operate to not create a hazard to manned aircraft or infringe approach and departure paths?
400 feet.
What does the purple shading indicate?
<500ft between terrain and controlled airspace lower limit

What is a very small RPA?
