A

(Testing for taut ribs, positive sign is not proper recoil)
One thumb is on angle of post fixed rib
other thumb slides med to nearest SP
Spine challenged lat to elastic end feel, placing stretch of elevator cot arum
thumbs maintain end feel between rib and SP while client inhales
Exhaltion, release SP and Rib, allowing elastic recoil

How do you perform the Rib Springing Technique?

A

Client is prone
Stand beside client, place hands on back with fingers spreader so they lie between each rib
press pressure against ribs when exhaling
wait until client has almost reached full breath (inhalation) before quickly springing back

gently let thumbs sink in while client exhales

A

(mostly bedridden people)
seated position
pillows piled up in lap and on table to support the thorax (Lay forward on pillows)
DDB/purse-lip breathing
Tapoment: 3-5 minutes (on Back)
slower rate, give breaks to cough up mucous
finish with effleurage/stroking

A

(right) 1/4 turn from supine with affected side higher
supported by pillows under right thorax and knees (and head)
DDB/purse-lip breathing
Tapotement: 3-5 minutes (over side of rib)
slower rate, give breaks to cough up mucous
finish with effleurage/stroking
(PERFORM ONLY ON RIGHT SIDE BECAUSE RIGHT SIDE HAS 3 LOBES AND LEFT HAS 2)
