What is Shahadah about?

A

In simple terms, Shahadah is the first pillar in the Islam community. This is about Muslims believing in one god, Allah, and that he is the one and only true god. Muhummad is his prophet/messenger. People must wholeheartedly recite a statement of faith 3 times in front of witnesses in order to become a fully fledged Muslim.

A

Salah is the second pillar of Islam, translating to the arabic word for prayer. It involves both words and actions, helping to focus the body and mind on Allah during daily prayers, especially on Ramadan.

A

Zakah is the third pillar in Islam. Every Muslim that is finanically stable is expected to donate 2.5% of their annual saving to charity, or people in need. The word, ‘Zakah’ means ‘to cleanse’ and purify.

What is Sawm?

A

Sawm is the fourth pillar in Islam, meaning fasting. Usually on Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. To fast, you must avoid consuming any food or liquids. They can also break their fasts with dates, just like Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had done. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is believed to be a time to improve moral character and focus on a positive mindset and growing closer to Allah.

A

Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam, is the annual pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca). It is usually on the 8th to 12th day of Dhul hijjah (the last month of the Islamic calendar).

A

A shorthand way of referring to dread or hatred of Islam, and therefore, to fear or dislike of all or more Muslims.

What is the purpose of a hijab pr veil in Islam/to Muslims?

A

Many Muslim women wear a hijab or veil to protect their modesty. Not all women choose to do this, though. It is more of a matter of choice and there is much discussion about the significance of wearing the hijab in British society. Muslim men are also expected to cover their knees once in the Mosque.

A

Denominations are groups of Christians who practise Christianity in different ways and may emphasise different parts of the Christian faith.

What is the Trinity?

A

The Trinity is a sort of like a system in the Christian faith. It resembles God. There are three aspects to this trinity, explaining that God is Three in One. Basically a deity with three forms. One is known as the Father, the second is known as the The Son (AKA Jesus) and the third, also last one, is the Holy Spirit.
