What does the weather describe?
The weather describes the conditions in a certain area, right here, right now. It usually changes in an hourly basis.
What does the climate describe?
The climate describes the average weather conditions within a particular area or region for a longer period of time.
What is the climate like in the North Eastern areas of Britain?
Cold winters and a cool summer climate.
What is the climate like in the South Eastern parts of Britain?
Cold winters and warm summers.
What is the climate like in the South Western areas of Britain?
Mild winters and warm summers.
What is the climate like in the North Western part of Britain?
Mild winters and cool summers.
What is temperature?
Temperature is how hot or cold something is, and is usually measured in a thermometer in degrees Celcius.
Why is the Stevenson Screen painted white?
So that it can reflect heat.
Why do Stevenson Screens have shutters?
So that air can circulate in and out.
Why are Stevenson Screens raised off of the ground?
They are raised off of the ground because if they didn’t, the thermometers that are inside the Stevenson Screens would take the temperature of the ground instead of that air.
In the Northern hemisphere, why are Stevenson Screens always facing north>
To prevent overheating.
What do the screen shields on the Stevenson screen do?
They shield the thermometers from the heat of the sun and also the rain.
What is an Anemometer?
An anemometer is something that measures the wind speed (mostly in mph) and usually looks like a toy windmill.
What is a wind vane/sock?
A wind vane or a wind sock is something that measures the wind direction by pointing towards North, East, South or West.
What is wind direction?
Wind direction is given for the direction that the wind is blowing FROM.
