Maths Flashcards
What is the order of BIDMAS
Brackets, Indices, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction.
What is the rule for the area of a triangle?
base x perpendicular height x 1/2
What is the formula to work out the value of each interior angle in a shape?
n = number of sides the polygon has in total
(n - 2) x 180*
Pythagoras Theorem formula?
^2 = squared
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
c^2= a+2 + b^2
What is the rule of divisibility for 4
If the number is formed by the last 2 digits are divisible by 4
What is the divisibility rule for 7
Multiply the last digit by 2 and subtract that number from the first number (without that last digit). If the result is divisible by 7, then the whole number is divisible.
What is the divisibility rule for 11
Subtract the last digit from the number formed by the last digits.
Eg; 396
39 - 6 = 33 which is divisible by 11
What is a prime number?
A prime number is a number that has exactly 2 factors, which are one and itself.
(Reminder: The number 1 is NOT a prime number)
What is a Prime Factor Decomposition?
The process of breaking a number down to its prime factors.
What is the HCF and how do you work it out?
The HCF is the Highest Common Factor. In order to work it out, you would need to list all the factors of the two numbers and put them in a venn diagram. Once you have found all of the common factors, you multiply all of them together.
What is the LCM and how do you work it out?
LCM is a maths abbreviation that stands for Lowest Common Multiple. In order to work this out, you would need to multiply all the factors of both numbers together and as a result, you would get the LCM of two certain numbers.
What is Mean?
The mean is the average found by adding all of the values together and dividing that by the number of values that you originally had.
What is Median?
The median is the average found by listing all of the values in order and locating the one in the middle.
What is Mode?
The mode is simply the value(s) which occurs most frequently. There can be no mode, one mode or even more than one.
What is Range?
The range is NOT average, but instead, its a measure of spread by subtracting from the smallest value from the largest.
