what is a drug?
a substance, which when taken, affects the body or mind

prescription drug
social drug
illegal drug
what is a prescription drug?
a drug which is prescribed by a doctor for medical purposes
what is a social drug?
legal drugs that are taken but are still addictive e.g. alcohol, caffeine and tobacco
what are illegal drugs?
drugs which are illegal to use sell or possess.
what are the rights and responsibilities of drugs?
we all have the rights to medical care if we are ill, so we can see a doctor and receive treatment on prescription if we are unwell. However, sometimes prescription drugs can get into the hands of someone else, for recreational use
what are the laws on social drugs?
they are legal, despite the harm that they can cause, but many have age restrictions.
what are the laws on prescribed drugs?
they are only legal for the person that they are prescribed to
what are the laws for over the counter drugs?
they can be restricted on the quantity that you buy and some are only available at pharmacies
what are the laws for household solvents?
e.g. aerosols sometimes have age restrictions and shop keepers should not sell to people that may cause harm

gives a feeling of wellbeing. overdose can lead to coma or death. very addictive

helps people relax but could cause mental health issues. can be used to help with MS

legal is prescribed by doctor for medical reason. Used by bodybuilders for muscle bulk and causes aggression and hormone imbalance

what reasons are there for cannabis to be legal?
- it acts as a pain relief for medical conditions, such as MS
- it can be argued that alcohol and tobacco are just as addictive and also cause harm, and they’re legal
- if it’s legal, it can be controlled
