What are the 3 elements of a holy War?
1) The achievement of a religious goal.
2) The authorisation of a religious leader.
3) The promise of a spiritual reward if you take part.
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:244
Fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
What are the 4 just causes of a war?
-Self-defence.
-Assisting an invaded friendly nation.
-Humans right violations.
-To punish an act of aggression-not accepted by all-war shouldn’t be a punishment.
What is greater Jihad?
Means striving to resist evil within oneself and to become a better person by doing good deeds.
What is terrorism?
It is the illegal use of violence to cause fear and intimidation for political aims. It is often carried out against civilians rather than military targets.
What do some Muslims refer to terrorists as?
Rouge individuals. They misinterpreted the Quran. They put emphasis on verses of holy scriptures to fit their ideologies.
What is pacifism?
The belief that instances of violence and war are wrong and should be avoided. Promotes sanctity of life.
Absolute/conditional/selective/active pacifists.
Absolute- Never right to take part in war-even self defence.
Conditional- Agianst war/violence Circumstances when war is less bad.
Selective- War is necessary sometimes however mass destruction weapons are unacceptable.
Active-Promote peace and argue against some ways.
Quran surah 16
‘God commands justice, doing good and generosity towards relatives and he forbids what is shameful, blameworthy and oppressive.
What is true forgiveness?
To forgive properly, we have to remember the wrongs done, analsye, understand, and accept them and then continue with our lives.
What is reconciliation?
The restoration of relationships of former enemies and the creation of trust/understanding between them.
What is social justice?
It is justice in relation to a fair balance in the distribution of wealth, opportunities and privileges within a society where individual’s rights are protected.
Surah Ash-Shuraa 42:40
The recompense of evil is evil the like of it. But he who forgives and makes amends, his reward lies with Allah. Surely He does not love the wrong-doers.
