How does a Church show peace?
Seeing everyone as equal shows justice and being united shows peace.
Who is a symbol of peace and forgiveness in Christianity?
Jesus teaches Christians peace and forgiveness.
How is Justice promoted in Christianity?
God is just and people should at the same way, Jesus taught that everyone should be treated fairly and we should treat people how we would like to be treated.
How do Christians think peace can be achieved?
Talking through issues and reconciling can bring peace.
How does Jesus demonstrate forgiveness?
Jesus forgave those who crucified him before he died.
Where does Islam come from and what does Islam mean?
It comes from ‘salaam’ and it means peace.
How did Allah create the world ?
Allah created and wanted a peaceful world.
What do Muslims do that demonstrates peace?
Greet each other with ‘peace be with you’.
What does being part of an Ummah promote?
It promotes messages of peace and unity.
What do Muslims believe peace to be and how does it sometimes have to be attained?
They believe in the personal struggle for peace (greater jihad). Sometimes it is necessary to go to war to attain peace.
How is the importance of justice shown in Islam?
Shariah law has strict rules on it,five pillars support by example of zakah), it is important to maintain peace which is what Allah intended,Muslims will be judged on treatment of others so they should act fairly.
Some Christians are absolute pacifists so..
do not accept any form of violence.
Terrorism-
use of violence to create fear.
Why do Christians not support Terrorism?
All human life is create by God and it is special so it is wrong to take life, violence goes against Jesus’ teachings of peace.
Why do Muslims believe that war may be necessary?
It may be necessary as a last resort to secure peace.
Give an example of Terrorism within Islam:
2001 9/11 attack by al- Qaeda.
What are causes of war?
Greed,self-defence,fear,pride, protecting others.
What is the Christian just war criteria?
chance of success,brings peace,last resort,does not kill innocent civillians,just cause.
Why do some Christians believe that a war is never justified?
Because both sides may claim that their cause is just.
What is the Muslim just war criteria?
is an act of defense,does not aim to win land or power,is a last resort,will not threaten lives or the environment.
Shia vs Sunni views on war…
Shias view Jihad as one of the ten obligatory acts while Sunnis don’t.
An example of a Christian who refused to participate in violence:
Martin Luther King while fighting for Black people’s rights.
Passive resistance-
non-violent opposition to authority.
Which Christian denomination oppose anything that harms people?
