Belief that all life is holy because it is created and loved by God-human life shouldn’t be misused or abused
What is quality of life?
The general well-being of a person in relation to their health and happiness
Arguments for abortion
Right to choose, circumstances(too young), her health and welfare is more important than foetus, the quality of life for the unborn child or existing children, stopping legal abortions would just mean back street abortions, rape
Arguments against abortion
Life begins at conception, right to live and reach potential, alternatives eg adoption, unborn child doesn’t have a choice, abortion makes life seem cheap and disposable, people born with disabilities can still have full and happy lives
What is the Roman Catholic view on abortion?
Forbids abortion, they view it as the murder of life, all life is created by God in his own image
What is the doctrine of double effect?
If the intention of the act is to save the mother’s life but a secondary effect would be the death of a foetus eg ectopic pregnancy

They don’t like it but they recognise there are some circumstances where it should be allowed

Like Quakers they support a woman’s right to choose eg age, mental health issues, rape

God gave us stewardship and we should look over the world

The idea that God is revealing himself to us through the natural world
What are some examples of human damage to the environment and how do they damage the earth?
Global warming(led to rising sea levels, flooding and disturbed ocean currents), natural resources(when used up there will be none left), deforestation(destroys ecosystems), pollution(microplastics are polluting oceans and harming sea life)
What are some ways to save the environment?
Reduce plastic use and recycle it, walking/cycling/public transport, using renewable energy resources
What is a utilitarian pov about animal testing?
Choices should be made based on what can do the most good. This might mean they believe testing life-saving medicine on animals is the right thing to do.
What are opposing views on eating animals?
Some people argue that we are built to eat meat, for example, because of our canine teeth.
Others argue the killing animals for our consumption is wrong, and that animal farming is cruel. They might say we should be vegetarian (someone who does not eat meat) or vegan (someone who does not consume or use any animal products).
What are the alternatives to abortion?
Education about contraception, avoiding sexual activity, counselling(unwanted pregnancy), adoption, practical support to keep the baby
What is the difference between absolute and relative moral?
Absolute moral means abortion is wrong in every circumstance, whereas relative moral means abortion is permitted in certain circumstances
What are the alternatives to euthanasia?
Hospice(specialist medical staff look after the terminally ill), or refusing treatment once they have made an informed decision

That God brought the universe into existence from nothing
What does ex materia mean?
That the world was created from matter that already existed
What do many Christians believe about the environment?
That all humans should consider themselves as global citizens and stewards and work as a team to care for the planet eg picking up litter, walking when possible, turning off light when not needed
What does Catholic teaching say about animal testing?
It’s only acceptable if it helps to care for or save human life-if we make animals suffer or die without good reason this goes against human dignity
