Belief that all life is holy because it is created and loved by God-human life shouldn’t be misused or abused
What is quality of life?
The general well-being of a person in relation to their health and happiness
Arguments for abortion
Right to choose, circumstances(too young), her health and welfare is more important than foetus, the quality of life for the unborn child or existing children, stopping legal abortions would just mean back street abortions, rape
Arguments against abortion
Life begins at conception, right to live and reach potential, alternatives eg adoption, unborn child doesn’t have a choice, abortion makes life seem cheap and disposable, people born with disabilities can still have full and happy lives
What is the Roman Catholic view on abortion?
Forbids abortion, they view it as the murder of life, all life is created by God in his own image
What is the doctrine of double effect?
If the intention of the act is to save the mother’s life but a secondary effect would be the death of a foetus eg ectopic pregnancy

They don’t like it but they recognise there are some circumstances where it should be allowed

Like Quakers they support a woman’s right to choose eg age, mental health issues, rape
