Lollards and anti-clericalism

  • A small minority believed in Lollardy, founded by John Wycliffe - they considered the Catholic Church to be corrupt
  • Criticism of the Church did exist however there were only ever specific outbursts that were usually politically motivated

  • Humanism started to become prevalent at Magdalen but it was not yet widespread
