religion exam (S.A) Flashcards
What is the bible? What characteristics does the bible have and how is it formatted? How can one find a specific passage within the Bible? How does someone interpret what is in the bible? (Remember literal and contextual)
the bible is a collection of religious texts or scriptures for Catholics. It is divided into the Old and New Testament. The Old Testament contains 39 books and the New Testament has 27 books. You can find a specific passage by knowing the name of the chapter, chapter number and verse. We are called to read the Bible contextually to have a better understanding of the stories it contains, and to understand how our world began.
Name one Commandment that unites us to God and one Commandment that unites us to each other. Explain how following two commandments helps us to live a moral life
One commandment that unites us to God is You shall have no other Gods before Me. This helps us live a moral life because we are called to cherish God every day in our lives, and make him our priority. Praying, going to church, and reading the bibles are ways to show God we love him and helps our connection with him. You shall not kill unites us to each other because it shows our maturity to those we do not know. It expresses that we treat others with respect at all times, and understand that God wants us to show love and compassion to all.
What Beatitude would you say this displays and why?
This relates to the Beatitude, blessed are those who are peacemakers. This is because it shows that the person wants to create peace with all, and make sure everyone is respectful and compassionate with each other.
Identify and explain an example of “de-creation” in our society. Describe how your example relates to a form of sin (ie. person vs. person. etc)
An example of “de-creation” in our society is bullying in schools. This relates to person vs. person because it contains a victim and the bully. We are called to show kindness and compassion to all, as that is what God teaches us, and bullying others can hurt the victim. We never know what someone is going through, and we should treat everyone the way we want to be treated.
