The idea that all humans are entitled to the same rights
EQUALITY
Treating all individuals equally in accordance with their human rights
FAIRNESS
Treating someone in a privileged manner based on family ties, race, gender, etc.
FAVOURITISM
The idea that some individuals are better than others rather than treating all humans as possessing equal value
SUPERIORITY
The position an individual holds in a particular organisation or in society as a whole
STATUS
An opinion based on inaccurate or incomplete evidence
PREJUDICE
Actions based on prejudice (i.e. racism, sexism, ageism)
DISCRIMINATION
Actions designed to help a social minority that has previously suffered from discrimination
POSITIVE DISCRIMINATION
Discrimination based on race (i.e. giving a job to a white person based on their racial origin rather than their ability)
RACISM
Discrimination based on gender (i.e. paying a woman less to do the same job as a man)
SEXISM
Discrimination based on age (e.g. employing a young woman to read the TV news because she is more attractive than an older woman)
AGEISM
The belief that it is the duty of every Christian to convert non-Christians
EVANGELISM
Spreading the word; speech designed to convert another person to your own faith
PROSELYTISING
Evangelism in action: taking the Christian message to non-Christians in an attempt to convert them
MISSIONARY WORK
The belief that efforts should be made to bring Christians of different denominations closers together; also that Christians should make an effort to find common ground with other religions (sometimes referred to as ‘interfaith pluralism’)
