Worship was restricted to registered congregations
1932
A 6 day week was introduced which meant 1/6th of workers had a day off each day.
This meant there was no longer a recognised day on which to attend church.
1936 constitution
Religious publications and organisation were criminalised but priests were now allowed to vote.
This I something not permissible since 1918
1935
Pilgrimages to Mecca were disallowed and the frequency of prayers, fasts and feasts reduced and the wearing of the veil forbidden.
This led to a backlash in some Muslim communities with the result that many Muslim priests were imprisoned

Also extended to Buddhists, Armenian and Georgian Churches
1941
Nearly 40,000 Christian churches
25,000 Muslim mosques
had been closed down
Despite this faith remained strong;
in 1937, 57% of the population said they were believers.
