The 4 Types of Parenting Stylese

A
  1. Authoritarian Parenting
  2. Authoritative Parenting
  3. Permissive Parenting
  4. Uninvolved Parenting
31
Q

Explain authoritarian parenting and its affects on the kid.

A

Authoritarian parents believe kids should follow the rules without exception. They often say phrases like, “Because i said so,” when a child asks the reasons behind a rule. They want their kids to be obedient and punish them if one doesn’t follow the rules.

Children who grow up with authoritarian parents could develop self-esteem problems. They may also become agressive and good liars.

32
Q

Explain authoritative parenting and its affects on the kid.

A

Authoritative parents establish rules, but they allow for reasonable exceptions to them. The parents use logical consequences and positive discipline to prevent behaviour problems.

Children with authoritative discipline tend to grow up to be happy and succesful. They are likely to be good at making decisions and become reasonable adults.

33
Q

Explain permissive parenting and its affects on the kid.

A

Permissive parents are lenient and do not give out consequences. They are very forgiving and want to be a friend to their children rather than a parent.

The children usually struggle academically and exhibit behavioral problems.

34
Q

Explain uninvolved parenting and its affects on the child.

A

Uninvolved parents are often neglectful. They don’t pay much attention to their children and have little knowledge of what they are doing. The parents could be doing this unintentionally, for example if they have mental health or substance abuse problems. Still, this parenting style has a large influence on the kids. They could struggle with self-esteem issues, tend to perform poorly at school and rank low in happines.

34
Q

Traditional family types pros

A

Traditional families may have stronger ties to extended family, providing a support system.
They may have well-defined roles and expectations, which can create a sense of security.
Traditional families often reflect cultural and historical norms, helping to preserve cultural values.

35
Q

Traditional family types Cons

A

Traditional families may reinforce gender inequalties.
They may also struggle to adapt to changing social and economic circumstances.
They might not accommodate diverse family arrangements (modern families), leading to discriminationand exclusion.

36
Q

Modern family types Pros

A

Modern families tend to be more adaptable to changing roles and circumstances, allowing for greater flexibility.
They might promote gender equality, encouraging both partners to share housework and financial responsibilities.
Modern Families include a wider rage of family compositions, including blended families, same-sex couples and single-parent households. (diversity)

37
Q

Modern family cons

A

Modern families still face societal stigma and discrimination, which could create stress for family members.
The lack of traditional community support systems could lead to feelings of isolation.
The flexibility of modern families might result in uncertainty and conflicts.
