Predator
An animal that eats another animal for food.
Prey
An animal that gets eaten by a predator.
Tertiary
The third level of consumers and is at the top of the food chain.
10% Rule
For each level of the Pyramid of Energy say the producer starts out with 500,000 calories the next level will only get 10% of energy passed on so it will get 50,000 calories.
Energy Pyramid
The Energy Pyramid shows the levels of the food chain and how the energy is passed down from each level.
Symbiosis
A relationship in which two different organisms live in close association with each other.
Mutualism
Both species benefit; sometimes depends on each other to survive.
Commensalism
When one organism benefits and the other is unaffected.
Parasitism
One species benefits from the other species which is harmed.
