Relationships Between Ecosystems Flashcards
Predator
A type of organism or living things that eat other living things called prey for its energy.
Prey
A type of organism or living thing that is eaten by predators for their energy.
Tertiary Consumer
The final consumer in the food chain that eats Secondary Consumers for its energy.
10% Rule
The purpose of this model is to simulate the ten percent energy rule in a food chain. In food chains, the predator only gains about ten percent of the prey’s energy. This pyramid effect leads to lower populations of upper-trophic-level predators.
Energy Pyramid
The Energy Pyramid is a way to tell how much energy passes on throughout each part of the Food Chain.
Symbiosis
A relationship when a animal or plant is benefitted, harmed or unaffected.
Mutualism
When two animals or plants benefit each other to live.
Commensalism
When a organism benefits the other organism and the organism is unaffected.
Parasitism
When a organism benefits on another organism which is harmed.
