Against: Catholics believe it is wrong. Sex should not be casual as it requires the union of marriage.
In the bible it says “Flee from sexual immorality”.
What are some Buddhist views on sex before marriage?
Buddhists believe it is acceptable to have sex before marriage as long as it doesn’t cause harm to anyone.

What is the purpose of families?
Procreation, stability/protection and educating the children into their faith.
Christian attitudes towards sexual relationships?
Sex is a deep, loving, life-long commitment that requires marriage.
The Bible teaches that heterosexual relationships are part of Gods plan.
Genesis- a man and a woman should be together and “increase in number”.
Buddhist attitudes towards sexual relationships?
Sex must not be harmful. First moral precept. Ahimsa.
Christian views on homosexual relationships?
Some oppose because they believe it goes against God’s plan.
Catholics believe it is sinful activity- “do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman”.
The church of England welcomes homosexuals living in committed relationships but does not allow marriage in the church.
Some Christians think that they are just as holy as heterosexual relationships.
Buddhist views on homosexual relationships?
They do not oppose these relationships.
Same sex marriage is now legal in the UK.
Christian views on contraception?
Catholics: Artificial is bad as it goes against natural law and procreation. “be fruitful and multiply”.
Anglicans: It is allowed for couples to develop their relationship before having children, to avoid harming the mothers health and to limit the number of children in a family.
Buddhist views on contraception?
Most believe it is acceptable.
Some believe that preventing a fertilised egg from developing is a form of killing, therefore breaking the first moral precept.
However if the child would threaten the mothers health then a contraception such as the morning after pill may be the most loving (metta) and compassionate (karuna) thing to do.
Purposes of marriage?
Non-religious: a legal union between two people. A lifelong commitment. It provides legal and financial benefits.
Buddhist: a social contradict rather than a religious duty.
Christian: a gift from God and part of the natural law. An agreement before God where vows are said. Procreation - “be fruitful and multiply”. A spiritual bond that reflects the love for Christ and the church.
Views on cohabitation?
Catholics oppose as sex should only take place in marriage.
Protestants accept that although marriage is best, people may cohabit.
Buddhists don’t care as it doesn’t break any teachings.
