time, intensity, intimacy and reciprocity
Granovetter

Zhao (2006)
found negative correlations between Internet use and social ties; the more internet use, the weaker the social tie
Kraut et. al (2002)
argues that online social ties tend to be weaker than relationships that are formed and maintained offline
Feld (1981)
people use social networks to evaluate both themselves and others; an individual’s identity is part determined by the network of friends he/she maintains
Shaw and Gant (2002)
concluded that Internet use is positively correlated with depression, loneliness and stress. They administered scales to measure these 3 and found that Internet use decreased loneliness and depression and increased self esteem
