Relationship Breakdown Evaluation Flashcards

1
Q

How does Duck’s theory oversimplify relationship breakdown?

A

The stages aren’t generalisable as it doesn’t account for drastic events such as cheating that will result in the phases of relationship breakdown being skipped
- not all relationships break up in phases
. The model may only be applicable to serious long-term relationship as short-term relationships won’t have built up commitment, so these phases won’t be necessary and breakdown can happen much sooner

Q

Who does the resurrection stage mainly apply to and how is it limited?

A

The person who wanted to end the relationship, the other person may want to just take a break from any relationships
The resurrection stage is limited in the fact that it assumes people move on very quickly
