Q

What were the findings of Rusbult and Martz?

A

Women stayed committed to the relationships as their economic alternative so were poor and their investment was great (deterred them from leaving the relationship even though satisfaction was low)
. Also shows that satisfaction isn’t as important as commitment in staying in relationships

Q

How does Lee and Agnew (2003) support Rusbult’s investment theory?

A

. Meta analysis of 52 studies from 1970-99
. 11,000 participants from 5 countries
- such a big sample size increases the validity
. Found that satisfaction, comparison with alternatives and investment all predicted relationship commitment
. High levels of commitment = most successful relationships
. Outcomes were true for homosexual couples too
