Relations with parliament Flashcards
Parliamentary Privilege
Is a legal immunity enjoyed by members of Parliament that allows them to freely speak during proceedings without fear of legal action, such as being arrested.
Shirley’s case, 1604
Thomas Shirley was arrested for debt which outraged MPs leading them to send the governor of his prison to the tower of London to get his immediate release.
Failure at Cadiz
The complete failure at Cadiz due to lack of supplies and leadership came from Buckingham’s poor planning. This led to Charles defending Buckingham leading to more distrust within parliament.
Royal assent
The method by which a monarch formally approves a bill passed by Parliament, which then becomes an Act of Parliament, or official law.
