Difference between relational practice and relational inquiry
Relational practice is a more broad approach that emphasizes relationship building through communication and rapport where relational inquiry is a more specific and structured process of asking questions to understand the thoughts and feelings of others
Main goal of relational inquiry
To understand the patients view point on their own values and beliefs and experiences
Factors of relational inquiry
Intrapersonal- within the individual
Interpersonal- people involved (family dynamics, community involvement)
Contextual- Hidden factors, things we cannot see ( financial issues, physical barriers in the home )
What is Reflexivity?
Actively and consciously considering our own biases, perspectives and experiences to improve patient care.
Being aware of our reactions and putting ourselves in the other persons shoes. Self reflection, self examination and self awareness. (Nurse can’t be crying just as hard as the family members)
