Mandatory Reporting
A
- must report to central Child Abuse Hotline (call, email, written) in cases of:
- child abuse, neglect, abandonment of child
- child in need of supervision
- not anonymous if licensed, a teacher, law enforcement

Exceptions to Mandatory Reporting
A
- if assigned or referred by agency or court and abuse is already known
- if incident is already under investigation

Abuse occurring out of state
A
- must be reported to that state
- if patient is in hospital in your state, call will transfer the information

Abuse involving impregnation of a child
A
- Report immediately, will go to law enforcement
- If child under 15 y.o. impregnated by someone 21 y.o or older
- does not apply to health care provider offering medical or counseling services to pregnant children if it would interfere with services

Institutional child abuse or neglect
A
- must be reported

Time frame for investigation after Central Abuse call
A
48 hours

Mandatory Report of Child Death
A
- report suspicion to medical examiner
- m.e. reports to law enforcement, state attny, and Dept., autopsy reports not confidential in this case
