Describe Board of Psychology

Criterion & Limitations of Provisional Licensure

r) Failing to meet the minimum standards of performance in professional activities when
measured against generally prevailing peer performance, including the undertaking of activities for which the licensee is not qualified by training or experience

Engaging a client in sexually explicit verbal or physical behavior is considered Sexual Misconduct EXCEPT :
Sexual intimacies with a present or former client regardless of how much time has passed may also be considered as sexual misconduct.
When
(a) Such behavior is for the purpose of treatment of psycho-sexual disorders or dysfunctions;
(b) That behavior complies with generally accepted professional standards for treating a client’s specific psycho-sexual disorders or dysfunctions.

c) A provisionally licensed person must hold himself out as such and must be displayed in ads, including cards, stationary, etc.
d) must display license (or provisional license) at EACH location where they practice .
g) must use** “licensed psychologist”** in any ads, incl. Yellow Page

To practice Juvenile Sexual Offender Therapy one must…

- Are a student in training (intern, trainee)
- Employed at a school, (public or private), and is certified by Dept. of Ed.
- Clergy (i.e., rabbi, priest, etc.)

b) when more than 1 patient is in therapy & all sign a waiver (e.g.,couples, family therapy)
c) “Duty to Warn” cituations- When a patient makes a specific threat against an identifiable person, psychologist must warn 1) the potential victim, **2) ** must communicate threat to law enforcement

This incudes terms: ‘certified psychology specialist”, “board-certified
- Indicates a psychologist is recognized as having special competency acquired through an organized sequence of training, experience, etc.
- The Board determines the rules establishing the criteria for approval by certifying bodies.
- A License psychologist CANNOT hold themselves out as a specialist unless they have been formally recognized from the appropriate certifying body

Specialties: The Board establishes the criteria for approval of the certifying bodies that provide certification for specialties in psychology. The criteria are -
(a) Be national in scope, (incorporate standards of the profession, and collaborate closely with organizations related to specialization in psychology).
(b) Have a clearly defined purpose, bylaws, policies, and procedures.
(c) Have established standards for specialized practice of psychology.
(d) Provide assessments to detrmine competency 9that include the development and implementation of an examination designed to measure the competencies required to provide services that are characteristic of the specialty area.)
