Rejuvenation Flashcards
Stage 1 process
Rejuvenation occurs when the base level is lowered, by either ground level rising or a drop in sea level
Stage 2 process
This gives the river greater potential energy, increasing its vertical erosion potential
Stage 3 process
Long profile of the river is extended and a knickpoint will mark the junction between the original long profile and new one.
What are river terraces and how do they form?
former floodplains which have been left above the level of present-day flooding. Formed by increased vertical erosion
What are incised meanders and how do they form?
deep, winding valley with steep sides. River is left far below the level of the former floodplain. Formed by increased vertical erosion.
