Certificate of Authorization (CofA)
- permit to practice
- issued by the association that allows individuals and businesses to offer and provide professional engineering services to the public
purpose of engineers seal
- signifies that the author assumes professional responsibility and accountability for the documents
- serious thought was given to the content and declares that others can rely on the design, facts and judgement
- must be signed and dated
Three intentions of licensing
- protect the public
- restrict unqualified persons from practicing
- discipline negligent practitioners
temporary license
allows out-of-province engineers to work in the province on a project
Qualified person
- an engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience to relevant subject matter
- must be in good standing
list 5 licensing requirements
- age 18+
- character - must be in good standing
- education - academic qualifications, degree from accredited university
- experience - 4+ years of suitable experience
- law and ethics knowledge - pass exam

- evaluates undergrad degrees and programs
- accredited programs are exempt from exams
