Regulation of Gene Transcription: Control of Transcription Flashcards
1
Q
How is unregulated activity determined?
A
- Sequence of -10 & -35 region determine affinity of RNA-P for the promoter
- Doesn’t give mechanism to trun on/off genes or alter level of transcription based on conds.
2
Q
Transcription Factors
A
- Regulatory proteins
- Ensure a gene is expressed at right time at correct level
3
Q
Type of regulation - Negative Control
A
- Promoter is active in absense of regulatory protein
- Binds to promoter + stops RNA-P from initiating transcription - Repressor
4
Q
Type of regulation - Positive Control
A
- Promotor is inactive in absense of regulatory protein
- Regulatory protein binds the promotor + helps RNA-P initiate transcription - Activator
5
Q
Negative Control Regulation - Inducible transcription
A
Requires an inducer that binds and inactivates the repressor
