At all times, pilot must have
license, photo ID, medical certificate
Plane must carry
AROW (airworthiness cert, registration, operating limitations, weight/balance)
License currency
flight review or new rating every 24 months
Recent experience (passengers)
3 to/l within 90 days
Recent experience (night)
3 to/l within 90 days
1st class medical
6-12 m (Over 40 / Under 40)
2nd class medical
12 mo (Over 40 / Under 40)
3rd class medical
2-5 years (Over 40 / Under 40)
Basic Med (requirements)
Regular cert after July 14, 2006 + US Driver License + Education course (every 24 months) + CMEC physical (48 months) + Personal certification + MVD check
Basic Med (limitation)
5 passengers, 6000lbs, 250 kias, 18k msl, not for hire
Towing gliders
100+ hours in that plane (or 200+ total), plus 3 dual or simulated tows within 24 months
Drugs/alcohol
(1) 8 hours / .04 (2) no passengers, except emergency (3) Report MVD DUI within 60 days
Drugs/alcohol possible consequence
denial or suspension of rating or license
Inspections (plane)
annual for all planes, every 100 hours for hire or instruction
Inspection (transponder)
24 months
ELT (when to test)
within the first 5 of every hour
ELT (when to replace)
50% battery, or 1 hour cumulative transmission
Inspection log signed by
whoever is APPROVING the work
Report to NTSB
Report accidents and certain incidents (inflight fire, control malfunction, incapacitated crew member, $25k in damage to others). Notify immediately, File a report within 10 days (accidents only, unless requested)
Inoperative equipment (do I need this?)
check minimum equipment list (MEL), if available. else follow flow chart in FAR (KOEL, type of flight, ADs, etc)
NOTAM D
Big stuff, Listed everywhere
NOTAM FDC (Flight Data Center)
Regulatory stuff (eg TFRs). Could be national, or ARTCC center only.
