A

FAO statistics, in 2015, 795 million people were hungry and did not have sufficient energy from their diet

98% of these live in an LIDC

Rural dwellers = 75% of hungry people live in rural dwellers particularly villages of Asia and Africa. They are so dependant on agriculture and have no alternative

Farmers - small scale make up 1/2 of the worlds hunger as they are dependant on crops from marginal land which is prone to drought and flooding

Children: 146 million children in LIDC’S are underweight according to UNICEF

Women: primary food producers in LIDC’s
Evidence has shown women are more affected by hunger than men and this impacts MMR’s and is likely to produce low birth-weight children.

Growing number of people, declining number of people undernourished

Progress in Caucasus and Northern Africa there are pockets of insecurity in these regions

Slow progress in Southern Asia and sub-saharan Africa - foods insecurity is a huge issue

N Africa such as Algeria, Egypt and Morocco and Tunisia - insecurity is eradicated but prices are kept low due to subsidies which are likely to be unstable in the longer term. There is more concern for malnutrition in the overweight and obesity part of the continuum
