What is the definition of reformation
Reformation is changing Roman Catholic religion to Protestant religion
What was Martin luthers first complaint (to do with monks)
- monks were lazy and uneducated
- monks had no plan of following a religious life
- monks treated monasteries like 5 star hotels

To do with priests
Priests often couldn’t read the bible and just read out nonsense which sounded like Latin

To do with services
All services were in Latin, only highly educated people could follow what was going on

Relics:
- some churches had things they said were sacred
- they had drops of Jesus’ blood, parts of gods breakfast, bits of virgin Mary’s dress
- these were all fake money making scams

-the church was very wealthy. The pope decided to raise more money to build St. Peter’s cathedral in Rome. This hit the poor very hard

-some priests had lots of money and lived a wealthy lifestyle but still hired uneducated monks to do their work

The Catholic Church remained strong in Spain, France and Italy
The Jesuits established higher standards of Catholic education
Missionaries were sent to USA and Asia to convert the people to Catholicism

Was where the leaders of the church were trying to improve the Catholic Church by removing some of luthers complaints and also trying to get people to covert to the Roman Catholic religion
