Abdominal reflex
T8-L1
Stroke risk and light from each quadrant of abdomen in diagonal manner toward umbilicus
-contraction of abdominals and deviation of umbilicus in direction of stim
Corneal “blink” reflex
Trigeminal and facial
Ask pt to look up and away, stroke cornea using cotton
-both eyes will blink with contact to one
Cremasteric reflex
L1-L2
Scratch skin of upper medial thigh
Risk and brief elevation of testicle on ipsi side
Gag reflex
Glossopharyngeal and vagus
Lightly stim each side of back of throat
-gag post stim
Plantar reflex
L5-S1
Stroke lateral aspect of sole of foot from heel to ball and medial to base of great toe
-flexion of toes
(Babinski-abnormal = CNS lesion)
DTR grade 0
No response
Always abnormal
DTR grade 1+
Diminished
May or may not be normal
DTR grade 2+
Active normal response
Normal

Brisk/exaggerated response
