Reflex Flashcards
1
Q
Reflex Pathway
A
- an organization of neurons that enable the body to react quickly
- can be simple or complex
2
Q
Pathway depends on 3 overlapping functions
A
- sensory input
- Intergration
- Motor Output
3
Q
Sensory Input
A
info coming in from 5 senses
4
Q
Intergration
A
-Combining 2 things to become a whole
5
Q
Motor Output
A
-A movement produced
6
Q
Stimulus
A
- A change or signal in the organisms environment which causes it to react
- can be internal or external
7
Q
Sensory Receptor
A
- receive a stimulus from environment
- Many sensory receptors are located in the skin
- other receptors include photo receptor in eye and taste reeptor in tongue
8
Q
Sensory Neuron
A
-carries info towards CNS interneurons
9
Q
Interneurons - Intergration Center
A
- connects sensory neurons & motor neurons
- located in spinal cord
10
Q
Motor Neuron
A
-carries info away from Cns towards effectors
11
Q
Effector
A
- muscle or gland
- effector has an effect
12
Q
Response
A
- muscles will contract
- glands will secrete
13
Q
Reflex Arc
A
- A simple connection of neurons that start with a stimulus & ends with a response
- response is automatic
- response is controlled through spinal cord without direct involvement of brain
- do not feel pain until after withdrawal
- ex: blinking when an object moves close, jerking hand away from hot object
