reflection + ray diagrams (basics) Flashcards
What does light do?
Travels and reflects in different directions.
How does all light behave?
Behaves the same way.
What does light do before we see it?
Goes through the media, reflects off the surface.
What is reflection?
Change in direction of a light ray when it bounces off a surface and reflects towards our eyes.
What are shadows? How can they be predicted?
Represent areas receiving fewer or no rays. Rays can predict LOST.
What does a smaller shadow mean?
The smaller the shadow, the further from light.
What is Fermat’s principle?
Light follows the path that takes the least amount of time (light travels in a straight line).
What is the incident ray?
Ray that travels from the light source to the reflective surface.
What is the reflected ray?
Ray that begins where the I.R + normal meet and bounces off the surface.
What is the angle of incidence?
The angle between the I.R and normal.
What is the angle of reflection?
The angle between the R.R and normal.
What is always equal?
A.I = A.R
What is the normal?
The line perpendicular to the surface that light hits.
