what is refraction
A
the change in direction of a light ray that happens when it travels form one transparent material into another. the ray of light bends towards the normal as it enters the glass and away form the normal when it leaves the glass

why does refraction happen
A
because light waves travel at different speeds in different materials. light waves travel more slowly in glass than they do in air

A
when waves travel from air into a denser material they travel more slowly.
