Reevaluation Flashcards
Tissue Appearence:
What should be done if a partial response is noted at reevaluation appt.? (#1 response of 4)
- Root contamination** Big issue
- more curretting
- local chemotherapeutics
- flap procedure (last resort, traumatic)
How does fibrous tissue respond to treatment compared to normal gingiva?
more fibrous tissue won’t respond as well
What can the speed and/or amount of bleeding indicate?
Severity
Absence of BOP indicates what?
A stable condition. Also a decreased chance of periodontal risk.
During reevaluation, what 4 things can we potentially see?
- Increased tissue tone/decreased inflammation
- shrinkage of the pocket
- new attachment (5% chance and only epithelial)
- Residual pocket if it doesn’t heal
If only a single deep, bleeding pocket remains after SRP, what do you do next?
You can reinstrument (SRP) the single spot quickly
Procedural options if multiple teeth still bleeding after SRP?
- redo SRP with local anastetic
2. Pull a flap
How do you treat secondary occlusal trauma? (2)
- splinting
- elimination of inflammation
Concerns with root exposure and mucogingival defects?(2)
Are they sensitive?
Do the esthetics bother you?
What are your treatment options for recession? (4)
- Free Gingival Graft
- Pedicle Graft (not used much)
- Subepithelial Connective tissue graft (common)
- Guided tissue regeneration (not used much)
Treatments for sensitivity? (5)
- Fluoride
- Varnish
- Mouthguard - Dicalcium Phosphate
- Restoration coverage
- Soft Tissue Coverage
- Endo (100% effective!)
What does a pussy pocket indicate?
an active suppurating pocket, highly concerning.
Is gingival exudate reliable for testing?
NOPE, difficult to interpret
1 cue for perio surgery is?
Many bleeding pockets
Is surgery recommended on a patient with bad oral hygiene?
No, because it won’t heal properly
