Church:
Either:
A building that houses catholic Worship

The organisation that governs catholicism.
Church pre 1965:
-Faced east, Toward jerusalem. This was to acknowledge Jesus’ sacrafice there.
-Mass said in Latin, the priest faces the east wall.
-Churches built in a cross shape

-Churches are designed with free artistic interperetation, they can have any shape and face any direction.
-Priest talks to the congregation
Lectern
-Speakers will talk to the lectern. On the lectern the place a bible, prayers, verses, stories or notes.
Altar
-Altar is site of transubstansiation
-Represents table of last supper
-The missal is laid on it
-At the front of the church for all to see
Crucifix
-CATHOLIC symbol
-Represents jesus’ suffering
-Present in all catholic churches and most catholic households.
Tabernacle
-Stores the eucharist (concecrated host) when it is on display.
-Stores host not consumed during mass
Christ is present in the eucharist in 4 ways:
1 - Jesus is the eucharist “this is my body”
2 - In eucharistic adoration, we love the eucharist as we love god
3 - In taking the eucharist, we receive the sacrifice
4 - During the words of institution, Jesus gives his life for us.
Itroduction of mass
At the beginning of mass, Catholics confess that they have sinned.
