Christ is present in the eucharist in 4 ways:
1 - Jesus is the eucharist “this is my body”
2 - In eucharistic adoration, we love the eucharist as we love god
3 - In taking the eucharist, we receive the sacrifice
4 - During the words of institution, Jesus gives his life for us.
Itroduction of mass
At the beginning of mass, Catholics confess that they have sinned.
Reading:
Readings
The
proclamation of
the Gospel is
the good news
that jesus is
risen.
Eucharist
God becomes the
flesh in
transubstansiation.
Through the
eucharist, jesus
continues to
redeem us
Our Father and Com-
munion:
By taking
communion, we
are accepting
the grand
sacrafice that
god made for
us.
End of Mass
We are invited
to go forward
and spread
the good
news.
Salvation in the past
Jesus died 2000 years ago to atone for
our sins
Salvation in the Present
By us having the eucharist, Jesus’ is still
making the sacrafice today
Salvation in the future
Salvation will end on the judgement day.
St Anselm:
Jesus’ total obidience to God “Paid a ransom” for our sins.
Paying the ransom is a metaphore for humanity making a
sacrafice in order to be worthy of God’s love.
St Irenaeus
St. Irenaeus taught us that the tree of
Knowledge and “the tree of the cross” are
comparable.
The tree of the cross is the tree in which
humanity was redeemed.
Whereas the tree of knowledge is the tree
from which humanity fell from grace.
Criticicms of anselm
We are not
“captives” of
God. We are
not paying a
“ransom”
instead, god is
offering us a
chance at
freedom
Table vs Altar
Jesus at the supper broke bread and blood at
the table
The priest at mass breaks the bread and blood
Cross vs crucifix
Cross Does not represent jesus’ death. Instead,
shows the hope we have.
Risen christ
The cross shows the death, the risen
christ is the ressurection.
The altar is where jesus gives his life.
The risen christ shows he came back.
Teachings about conscience
Catholics must not do something if it
breaks God’s laws.
If it breaks the church teaching, the
Catholic must evaluate the importance of
their desire to make a choice.
By following god’s law, it is impossible to
allow our concsince to disobey god.
Meaning about conscience
Conscience is the god-given human ability to
evaluate our descisions and their
consequences.
Why did Jesus have to come? [Free Will and Sin]
Humans fell from grace. St. Anselm taught us that humanity payed the ransom, in the scrafice pf Jesus.
By having one man follow thentrue will of the father, we fight original sin.
Anglican Christians
The eucharist only represents
Jesus’ body at the last supper.
Catholics
The eucharist IS Jesus’ body. The outward
appearance is different but the reality is the
same.
It happens in fromt of the comgregation
quakers:
Do not celebrate any form of
eucharist.
Orthodox christians
The eucharist IS Jesus’ body. The outward
appearance is different but the reality is the
same.
It happens away from the comgregation.
Nonconformist Christians:
Many believe that, similarly to
anglicans, It is simply a memorial of
the last supper.
benediction:
During Eucharistic Adoration,
Catholics may face the
Monstrance and pray in
adoration towards the
Eucharist.
Eucharistic Adoration:
Carholics belove that jesus
is “the lamb of god” during
the passover, lamb blood
was used to atone for the
jews sins. In the same way,
the blood of christ take
away our sins.
Words of Institution:
When the words of instituition are said,,
transubstansiation takes place.
Jesus is present in the eucharist “This is my
body”
We mist take the eucharist in the honour of
christ. “Do this in memory of me”
