Adenovirus
Which antibiotics can be used in the management of bacterial conjunctivitis?
Fusidic acid eye drops
Chloramphenicol eye drops/ointment
Give two tests on examination to distinguish episcleritis from scleritis
Phenylephrine eye drops (will constrict episceral vessels and cause the redness to blanch)

What is the management of episcleritis?
Reassurance - self-limiting
NSAIDs and artificial tears may help relieve symptoms

Sore, itchy, watery eyes
May be discharge
No changes in vision
What is the presentation of episcleritis?
Acute onset red eye
Mild discomfort
No discharge or changes in vision
What is the presentation of scleritis?
Gradual onset
Red/deep blue eye
Painful eye movements
Watering of the eye
What is the presentation of anterior uveitis?
Acute onset of pain
Small irregular pupil
Changes in vision
Photophobia
Red eye
Hypopyon
What is the management of anterior uveitis?
Cycloplegics to dilate the pupil
Steroid eye drops
Do children with conjuctivitis need to be excluded from school/nursery?
No
What are the features of endophthalmitis?
Red eye, pain and vision loss following intra-ocular surgery
