Q

What do we mean by ‘new or primary scrap and
‘old or secondary scrap’ ?

A

New or primary scrap is the cutoffs from billets, risers from castings, and turning from machining that are a by-product of the manufacture of products; it can be recycled immediately, often in-house.

Old or secondary scrap appears when the products themselves reach the end of their usefull lives.

Q

Why are the virgin materials more expensive than the recycled ones?

A

Virgin materials are more expensive than those that have been recycled, because their quality, both in engineering terms and that of perception, is greater.
