hydromorphone/ Dilaudid
Class: opioid analgesics, opioid agonist.
Route: PO, IM, IV, Rectal.
Indication: moderate to severe pain.
Watch for respiratory depression.
Contraindication: respiratory depression.
Antidote: Narcan
midazolam/Versed
Class: sedative, anti-anxiety, anticonvulsants, benzodiazepine.
Route: IM, IV, PO, Intranasal.
Indication: preprocedural sedation, seizures.
Monitor vital signs continuously.
Contraindication: uncontrolled severe pain.
Antidote: Flumazenil.
lidocaine/Xylocane
Class: anesthetic, antiarrhythmics.
Route: topical.
Indication: topical anesthetic.
Monitor for pain.
Fentanyl
Class: opioid analgesics, opioid agonists.
Route: IV, IM.
Indication: severe pain, anesthesia.
Monitor vital signs continuously.
Antidote: Narcan
Contraindication: respiratory depression. Opioid naive pt.
labetalol/Trandate
Class: antianginal, antihypertensive, beta blocker.
Route: PO
Indication: hypertension.
Side Effects: arrythmias, HF, bradycardia, pulmonary edema.
Monitor blood pressure.
naloxone/Narcan
Class: antidotes, opioid antagonist.
Route: intranasal, IM.
Indication: overdose on opioids.
flumazenil/Romazicon
Class: antidote.
Route: IV
Indication: benzodiazepine overdose.
Institute seizure precautions.
propofol/Dripivan
Class: general anesthetic.
Route: IV
Indication: induction of anesthesia.
Monitor Vital Signs.
vecuronium/Norcuron
Class: neuromuscular blocking agent nondepolarizing.
Route: IV
Reason: induction of skeletal muscle paralysis.
neostigmine/Prostigmin
Class: cholinergic.
Route: IV
Reason for use: reversal of nondepolarizing neuromuscular blockers after surgery.
Antidote: atropine.
