Squeezing reserve bag to get rid of anaesthetic gas
Describe the point at which you would remove the ET tube in dogs and cats
Dogs - wait for gag reflex
Cats - remove asap
Describe the anatomical issue of horses under anaesthesia
In VD
- Ventral lungs ventilated
- Dorsal lung perfused
Describe three post operative conditions in horses
Upper airway obstruction - epiglottis can obstruct upper airway (nasal flaring and abdominal respiratory effort)
Nasal oedema - Often self resolving - leave ET Tube in
Laryngeal Obstruction - dorsal displacement of soft palette and retraction of the epiglottis (avoided with correct selection of ET tube)
Describe the symptoms of pulmonary oedema in horses
Frothy pink fluid at nostrils, and increased respiratory effort
