Reconstructive Memory Flashcards
How does the theory of Reconstructive Memory say we recall?
It says our recall is rarely accurate, so we build our own version of events using our schemas, past memories, and expectations.
Define confabulation.
When we fill in gaps in our memory to provide a more detailed account. This could be wrong, but it’s not consciously lying.
Define distortion.
When we change how we remember things from what we’ve seen or heard elsewhere.
What are leading questions?
The way a question is phrased can influence people’s memory.
What are some criticisms of the theory of Reconstructive Memory?
The theory is quite holistic, it is an abstract theory so cannot be tested, it doesn’t attempt to explain why this happens.
